Download Here Today we discuss contouring the body.&nbsp; There are a few tools needed to complete this job successfully.&nbsp; The first is a surform shaver.&nbsp; You can see an example and purchase one here.&nbsp; You will also need a rasp.&nbsp; Finally, you will need a foam sanding block. When it comes to painting the instrument, there are hundreds of colors to choose from.&nbsp; While you can use various kinds of paint, I prefer to stick with specifically instrument paint just to avoid any unseen issues.&nbsp; There are tons of different kinds to choose from here.&nbsp; Remember, the goal is to have fun and be creative!!!

here.  You will also need a fret hammer, fret cutter, and fret beveler. This is one of the more time consuming steps in building a bass guitar, but take your time!  The more time you take on this step, the better your instrument will feel and play in the long run.

Download Episode 1 Hey guys, Today is the release date for Episode 1 of my podcast, Low-End Luthiers!&nbsp; In this episode, I discuss all different types of wood used for bass guitars.&nbsp; I go over the things you need to determine in order to choose what type of wood your instrument will be made from.&nbsp; I personally chose Swamp Ash for the body I am working on.&nbsp; Swamp Ash is a softer wood, so the sound isn't as bright as other woods.&nbsp; Swamp Ash will also let me either stain it or paint it outright (I'm actually planning a blue sparkle finish for the bass).&nbsp; Also, I have a bad back, so Ash is a lighter wood.&nbsp; I'm hopeful this will make a difference!&nbsp; If you want to check out the various woods I discuss on the podcast, feel free to follow the partner link to Stew Mac's website.&nbsp; They have great descriptions of the various woods they sell.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bass Body Woods.
